Panels make the most at midday, when most homes use the least. A battery keeps that surplus for the evening, so the kettle, the oven and the television run on sunshine after dark.
In winter, when the panels make less, the battery can fill up on a cheap overnight tariff and run the house through the expensive hours.
How big?
Most homes we fit need 5 or 10 kWh. We size it from your evening use: a battery that never empties is money sitting on the wall.
What it could save
For a household out most of the day, a battery typically saves another £240 to £420 a year on top of the panels. With an overnight tariff in winter, it can be more. These are typical figures, not promises; your survey gives an estimate for your home.
